{"id":706,"date":"2017-11-28T20:42:22","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T18:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/itsimple.info\/?p=706"},"modified":"2020-06-29T01:12:27","modified_gmt":"2020-06-28T23:12:27","slug":"how-to-fix-windows-boot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/?p=706","title":{"rendered":"How to fix windows boot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimed Windows boot loader break`s and windows stop loading , you might recive :<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-707\" src=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/bootmgr_missing-300x138.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/bootmgr_missing-300x138.png 300w, https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/bootmgr_missing.png 650w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First boot from windows installation cd and go for &#8220;Repair Your Computer&#8221; :<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-708\" src=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair1-300x222.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"607\" height=\"449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair1-300x222.png 300w, https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair1-131x98.png 131w, https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair1.png 615w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 607px) 100vw, 607px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then choose &#8220;Troubleshoot&#8221; option :<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-709\" src=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair2-294x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"605\" height=\"617\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair2-294x300.png 294w, https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair2.png 455w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 605px) 100vw, 605px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>in the advance option menu choose &#8221; Startup Repair&#8221; :<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-710\" src=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair3-300x205.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"603\" height=\"412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair3-300x205.png 300w, https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/WindowsRepair3.png 650w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you are on windows 7 or 2008 choose command prompt :<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-711\" src=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Windows2008Repair1-300x226.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"604\" height=\"455\" srcset=\"https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Windows2008Repair1-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Windows2008Repair1-131x98.png 131w, https:\/\/itsimple.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Windows2008Repair1.png 482w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 604px) 100vw, 604px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>From there change directory to recovery -&gt; then type <strong>startrep.exe <\/strong>this will start the repair wizrad.<\/p>\n<p>If the damage is to big you can manually rebuild the boot :<\/p>\n<p>go to the comman prompt as mention above end execute :<\/p>\n<pre>1. bootrec \/scanos\u00a0\u00a0 (to search for the OS partion)\n\n2. bootrec \/rebuildbcd\n\n3. reboot\n\n4. boot from the Windows installation CD again and go to the command prompt : and execute the repair procedure as mention above again .<\/pre>\n<p>You can also try :<\/p>\n<pre><code>bcdboot C:\\windows \/s S:    (or Just  bcdboot C:\\windows \/s) specifies C: as Windows partition, S: as system partition. <\/code><\/pre>\n<p>Sometime windows boot partition can lose it drive letter, you need it to be C !!! the simple way to restore it is :<\/p>\n<ol class=\"sbody-num_list x-hidden-focus\">\n<li class=\"x-hidden-focus\">Make a full system backup of the computer and system state.<\/li>\n<li>Log on as an Administrator.<\/li>\n<li>Start Regedt32.exe.<\/li>\n<li>Go to the following registry key:\n<div class=\"indent x-hidden-focus\"><strong class=\"sbody-strong x-hidden-focus\">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\MountedDevices<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Click <strong class=\"uiterm\">MountedDevices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>On the <strong class=\"uiterm\">Security<\/strong> menu, click <strong class=\"uiterm\">Permissions<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Verify that Administrators have full control. Change this back when you are finished with these steps.<\/li>\n<li>Quit Regedt32.exe, and then start Regedit.exe.<\/li>\n<li>Locate the following registry key:\n<div class=\"indent\"><strong class=\"sbody-strong\">HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SYSTEM\\MountedDevices<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>Find the drive letter you want to change to (new). Look for &#8220;\\DosDevices\\C:&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <strong class=\"uiterm\">\\DosDevices\\C:<\/strong>, and then click <strong class=\"uiterm\">Rename <\/strong><br \/>\n<span class=\"text-base\">Note<\/span> You must use Regedit instead of Regedt32 to rename this registry key.<\/li>\n<li>Rename it to an unused drive letter &#8220;\\DosDevices\\Z:&#8221;.<br \/>\nThis frees up drive letter C.<\/li>\n<li>Find the drive letter you want changed. Look for &#8220;\\DosDevices\\D:&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Right-click <strong class=\"uiterm\">\\DosDevices\\D:<\/strong>, and then click <strong class=\"uiterm\">Rename<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Rename it to the appropriate (new) drive letter &#8220;\\DosDevices\\C:&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Click the value for <strong class=\"uiterm\">\\DosDevices\\Z:<\/strong>, click <strong class=\"uiterm x-hidden-focus\">Rename<\/strong>, and then name it back to &#8220;\\DosDevices\\D:&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Quit Regedit, and then start Regedt32.<\/li>\n<li>Change the permissions back to the previous setting for Administrators (this should probably be Read Only).<\/li>\n<li>Restart the computer.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>You can also have problem with EFI boot loader, the way to fix this is to boot from Windows installation as mention above, then issue this commands from command prompt to rebuild the EFI boot operation :<\/p>\n<pre>diskpart\nsel disk 0\nlist vol<\/pre>\n<p>Then Verify that the EFI partition (EPS &#8211;
